A Simple Poem

Here's day two's submission of NaPoWriMo (a poem a day for the month of April in honor of National Poetry Month):

A Simple Poem Today

I need to write a poem today
the only goal is to get it down.

It can be trite, or not.
rhyme, or not.
Just a simple poem.

It doesn’t have to discuss
all the feelings conjured up
at the thought of death
or time
or climate change turning the oceans to acid.

It doesn’t have to be monumental
or epic
or wax about the moon or
spring flowers
or how desperate love can feel.

It doesn’t even need to be musical,
lyrical
or rhythmic.

A simple poem today
is all.

Looking here
I guess I don’t need to write it after all.
