In Our Bed

Here's day six's submission of NaPoWriMo (a poem a day for the month of April in honor of National Poetry Month):

In Our Bed

Shit.
I’m in bed,
Just calmed down
from chasing away
the giant house spider
(a substantial understatement of size)
lounging on the quilt.

Truth to tell
we killed it -
with extreme prejudice.
All our environmental self-righteousness
flew out from under the covers,
screamed, swore, grabbed a shoe
and hammered that non-poisonous
extremely intimidating
uninvited, ugly
eight-legged little demon into pulp
on the carpet.
No remorse
(well, maybe some).
but he was in our bed. Our BED!
And we can’t get past that.

Not without therapy, and I’m not doing that
for all the spiders in the world.

Loved this one Patrick, and I feel the same about that monster you found in your bed, the spider that is!!!
